Short answer: It just doesn't work. Character Controller is always using its own CapsuleCollider and there is nothing you can do about it. It's a feature requested for several years, but there doesn't seem to be any interest to add this feature in the near future.

I suppose you could give the player a rigidbody collider in addition to its current collider, just make sure it isn't colliding with itself weirdly. Rigidbody colliders should detect collision with static colliders.

You can delete the Box Collider component of your character in the Inspector and then go to the Component menu and add any other shape you wish. To adjust its' relative position to the character, there should be a Center option (along with Scale, etc.) for it over in the Inspector to get it fitting snug and nice. Dec 19, 2013 · The CharacterController is "not" a physics object. For Phyx the CC is just a static collider. The CC has it's own movement and collision logic which is based on an up-right capsule. That's can't be changed.
